GENERAL REGULATIONS
1. Persons hunting and fishing within the exterior boundaries of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and on tribal trust land outside the exterior boundaries, must be in possession of a current tribal license. State licenses are not honored on tribal trust lands.
2. Consent to hunt on private lands must be obtained from the landowner and is the exclusive responsibility of the hunter/guide.
3. Legal hunting hours begin one-half hour before sunrise and end one-half hour after sunset.
4. It is illegal to discharge firearms in or around reservation recreation dams and reservoirs.
5. Wanton waste of any game is strictly prohibited. This includes taking only the breast meat of birds and discarding the rest. The entire dressed bird must be in possession of hunter.
6. Hunting within one mile of tribal buffalo and elk management units located near Allen and Slim Butte is prohibited.
7. Use of artificial light in hunting game species is prohibited.
8. Possession of unlawfully taken game is strictly prohibited.
9. Hunting or harassing game from any conveyance vehicles, ATV’S, or trucks unless handicapped is prohibited. This includes persons driving big game to the hunter(s).
10. Destruction or alteration of signs, posts, or fences is prohibited. All gates must be closed after use.
11. Vehicle will remain on graded roads or an established two-track (road used often but not graded) at all times. Failure to comply may result in possible license revocation.
SMALL GAME REGULATIONS (spring season only)
1. Tribal member small game license includes sharptail grouse, pheasant, mourning dove, prairie dog, squirrel, and cottontail rabbit.
2. Non-tribal member resident small game license includes squirrel, cottontail rabbit, and mourning dove.
3. Non-tribal members must possess specific licenses for small-game and furbearer.
FURBEARER REGULATIONS
1. Tribal member and non-tribal member resident furbearer licenses include:
coyote, red fox, gray fox, raccoon, skunk, beaver, porcupine, muskrat, and weasel.
2. It is unlawful to destroy or molest any den or home of animals being pursued.
3. It is unlawful to trap with the aid of poison, stupefying substances or explosives.
4. All steel leg hold traps must be no larger than number four (4).
5. Bobcat season is closed.
FISHING REGULATIONS
1. A maximum of two(2) lines and three(3) hooks per line are allowed for open waters.
2. A maximum of six (6) lines and three (3) hooks per line are allowed for ice fishing or Six (6) tip-ups will be allowed per person.
3. No vehicles will be allowed on the ice while ice fishing . This includes ATV’S and snowmobiles.
4. Emptying live bait into reservation waters is strictly prohibited.
5. No person may possess carp, buffalo, carpsuckers, goldfish or game fish ( except cleanings ) as bait for hook and line fishing.
6. Creel limit for largemouth bass is two (2) daily, four (4) in possession. Only one large mouth over twelve (12) inches may be taken per day.
7. Unlimited creel for northern pike. Catch and remove from reservoir.
8. Creel limit for walleye is two (2) daily, four (4) in possession. Only one walleye over (14) inches may be taken per day.
9. Creel limit for crappie is five (5) daily, ten (10) in possession.
10. Creel limit for perch is four (4) daily, eight (8) in possession.
11. Creel limit for trout is four (4) daily, eight (8) in possession.
12. Creel limit for blue gill is eight (8) daily, sixteen (16) in possession.
13. Maximum diameter permitted for ice fishing holes is eight (8) inches.
14. It is unlawful to take any fish or attempt to take any fish with the aid of a gill net.
